Moving to Mount Juliet, TN: Relocation Guide (2026)
Chapters

So y'all are moving to Mount Juliet, the "City Between the Lakes," as the city calls itself. Whether you're coming from Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, or Florida, the first few weeks bring a long to-do list: where to live, who to call for power and water, how to enroll the kids, and when to trade in that out-of-state license.

Our MaX House team built this guide to shorten that list: the steps, offices, deadlines, and real costs, checked against official sources in October 2026.

Here's what we'll cover:

Your Mount Juliet Moving Checklist

  • Confirm the county for your exact address. Part of the 37122 ZIP code is in Davidson County, which changes schools, taxes, and sometimes the electric company.
  • Set up utilities before move-in. Each one is a separate account.
  • Get your Tennessee driver's license within 30 days of establishing residency.
  • Title and register your vehicles with the Wilson County Clerk right away.
  • Enroll the kids online with Wilson County Schools (or Metro Nashville Public Schools on the Davidson side), and register to vote when you get your license.

Areas and Housing Types in Mount Juliet

Mt. Juliet Road runs north and south through town, I-40 cuts across it, and the lakes frame each end. Most housing is single-family homes in subdivisions, with townhomes mixed in. In RealTracs data compiled by a local brokerage for a recent 12 months, new detached homes in 37122 had a median price of $645,000 and new townhomes $399,990.

North Toward Old Hickory Lake

The north end runs up toward Old Hickory Lake, with established subdivisions, homes near the water, and custom builds on big lots. Several new custom homes listed in October 2026 sit on 5 to 7 acres near the lake, per RealTracs listings.

Providence and the Middle of Town

Providence Marketplace, a large shopping center where Mt. Juliet Road meets I-40, anchors the middle of town. Around it you'll find townhomes and single-family subdivisions, and the WeGo Star's Mt. Juliet Station at 22 E. Division St. makes a train commute realistic.

South Toward Central Pike

South of I-40, the Central Pike area is filling in with newer subdivisions. TDOT calls it a "rapidly developing" corridor, according to FOX 17 in May 2026, and Wilson County Schools rezoned Central Pike Elementary and Gladeville Elementary and Middle for 2026-27. Keep heading south and you reach Percy Priest Lake.

The Davidson County Side

Of 476 new-construction sales in 37122 over that same 12 months, 30 were in Davidson County, mostly in one community near the county line, per the same RealTracs data. Those homes are in Metro Nashville Public Schools and pay Davidson County tax, so check the tax record before you offer.

Setting Up Utilities in Mount Juliet

Here's who to call, per each provider's website in October 2026. Confirm them for your address with the seller.

  • Electric: Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE), a member-owned co-op serving Cannon, Rutherford, Williamson, and Wilson counties. Some addresses near the Davidson County line may be Nashville Electric Service territory.
  • Water: West Wilson Utility District, which serves western Wilson County, including most of Mount Juliet. The residential connection fee is $40, and the district asks for 24 hours' notice.
  • Sewer: the City of Mt. Juliet, billed separately and based on your water usage. New service takes a city form, a government ID, and $25 at City Hall.
  • Natural gas: Spire took over from Piedmont Natural Gas as the Nashville region's gas provider on March 31, 2026. Piedmont still handles billing and accounts until the transition wraps up in 2027, so start service through Piedmont for now.
  • Trash: the city doesn't run garbage pickup. A 2025 city resolution points residents to private companies, and WM and Republic Services both list residential service here. Ask your HOA whether trash is included.

Keep those first bills handy. They count as proof of residency for your license and school enrollment.

Enrolling in School

Most of Mount Juliet is served by Wilson County Schools. Start with the district's School Zone Lookup, and check it again close to enrollment, since zones change. For 2026-27 the district rezoned Central Pike, Gladeville, Rutland, and Southside schools.

New families enroll online: request a Skyward Family Access account, complete the six-step application, upload documents, then follow your zoned school's instructions. The district's required documents include proof of birth, a Tennessee Certificate of Immunization, a physical from the last year, a parent photo ID, and two proofs of residence (bills and statements dated within 30 days). For kindergarten, your child must turn 5 on or before August 15.

On the Davidson County side, Metro Nashville Public Schools has its own Zone Finder and registration. Zoning goes by exact address, so confirm before you buy.

Driver's License, Car Registration, and Voting

Driver's license: the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security requires new residents to get a Tennessee license within 30 days of establishing residency, at a full-service Driver Services Center. Bring originals proving citizenship or lawful presence, your Social Security number, and two proofs of Tennessee residency, plus your old license to surrender. Coming from California or Illinois? You'll also need a driving record (MVR) from your old state, and a few other states are on that list too.

Title and registration: head to the Wilson County Clerk, at the Lebanon courthouse or 10905 Lebanon Road in Mt. Juliet. The clerk says new residents must apply for plates "immediately after moving," with no grace period under Tennessee law, so don't wait. Bring ID, proof of residency, your out-of-state registration, and your title or lienholder's name and address. The clerk lists $68 for a new title and plate, plus $11 to note a lien, and doesn't take out-of-state checks. Starting January 1, 2027, the Department of Revenue says first-time Tennessee registrations will also require proof of U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or authorized presence.

Emissions: no test needed. Testing ended in Wilson County on January 14, 2022, per a state FAQ and Main Street Media reporting.

Voting: apply when you get your license, and the Driver Services Center forwards it to the county election commission.

Commuting from Mount Juliet

By car: downtown Nashville is about 16 to 19 miles west on I-40, roughly 20 to 30 minutes off-peak per map estimates in October 2026. Rush hour depends on traffic and can run a good bit longer. I-40 congestion is a real heads-up. TDOT's 2026 10-Year Plan adds a new I-40 interchange at Central Pike ($93.5 million, right-of-way work in 2027, construction targeted for 2029), widens Central Pike, and puts $46.4 million toward Mt. Juliet Road, according to FOX 17.

By train: the WeGo Star runs weekdays only. WeGo's timetable effective July 5, 2026 shows six trips each way, with most Mt. Juliet to Riverfront Station runs taking about 30 to 35 minutes. A one-way ride from Mt. Juliet is $4.75, and a monthly pass is $158.50.

Flying: Nashville International Airport (BNA) is about 11 to 14 miles away, roughly 17 to 21 minutes off-peak per map estimates.

Lakes, Mountains, and Getting Around

Old Hickory Lake covers 22,500 acres of water with eight commercial marinas, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Percy Priest Lake covers 14,200 surface acres at summer pool and runs 42 miles through parts of Davidson, Rutherford, and Wilson counties, per the Corps.

Long Hunter State Park, a short drive south, follows 30 miles of Percy Priest shoreline and has a two-mile paved loop around Couchville Lake, per Tennessee State Parks. As of October 2026, its boathouse and fishing pier are closed until further notice.

Want a home on the water? The Corps controls docks on both lakes. On Old Hickory, private docks are allowed only in certain shoreline areas, and the Corps' current regional permit (November 2025) doesn't cover new private docks on Percy Priest. If a dock is a must, call the Corps first. Browse Nashville-area waterfront homes to see what's out there.

Mountains: the Great Smoky Mountains are about 200 miles east on I-40, roughly four hours depending on traffic, so plan a weekend.

Cost of Living and Property Taxes

Income tax: Tennessee has no state income tax on wages, and the Hall tax on interest and dividends was fully repealed starting January 1, 2021, per the Tennessee Department of Revenue. Coming from California, New York, or Illinois, you'll notice.

Sales tax: Mount Juliet's combined rate is 9.75% on most purchases (7% state plus Wilson County's 2.75%). Groceries get a lower 4% state rate plus the local rate.

Property tax: Wilson County's 2026 rate is $1.1657 per $100 of assessed value, and the City of Mt. Juliet adds 28 cents for the fiscal year that began July 1, 2026, per the city. Tennessee assesses homes at 25% of appraised value, so a $500,000 appraisal is assessed at $125,000, roughly $1,807 a year. You'll get two bills each October, one from the city and one from the Wilson County Trustee, payable without penalty through February. On the Davidson side, the same RealTracs data put the median 37122 tax bill at $3,500 versus $1,930 on the Wilson side (partial data).

Home prices: Redfin reports a median sale price of $573,227 for the three months ending September 2026, down 0.26% from a year earlier.

What to Know Before You Buy

New construction moves fast. In that RealTracs data, new homes went under contract in a median 16 days versus 37 for resale. The builder's sales agent works for the builder, so bring your own. Our New Construction buying guide explains how we help.

Read the HOA documents. Most newer subdivisions have one. Ask what dues cover and what the rules say about fences, parking, and boat or RV storage.

Check flood risk. Redfin's climate data estimates about 4% of Mount Juliet properties face severe flood risk over the next 30 years. Check the FEMA flood map and get an insurance quote early, especially near creeks and the lakes.

Resale gives you some room. Redfin shows a median 79 days on market for the three months ending September 2026, and 37.1% of homes had a price drop.

Buying from out of state? Our Buying from Out of State guide covers virtual tours and remote closings, the Greater Nashville relocation guide helps you compare suburbs, and our Wilson County homes page shows nearby towns.
