Boxes are the easy part of moving to Andersonville. The real work is the short list of calls and counter visits that come with a rural address in Anderson County: who sends the power bill, where the trash goes, which clerk window handles your tags, and how to enroll your children in school. This guide walks through each one, with sources we checked on October 30 and 31, 2026.
Andersonville is unincorporated, so the county is your local government. Here's what we'll cover:
Clinton Utilities Board (CUB) buys its power from TVA and serves customers in six counties, including Anderson and Union, according to CUB. Industry listings name Andersonville on CUB's electric system, though pockets of 37705 may have a different provider. Call CUB at 865-457-9232 with your street address to confirm.
Anderson County Water Authority (ACWA) provides water and wastewater collection service in the unincorporated parts of the county and draws its water from the Clinch River, per ACWA. Call 865-457-3033 to open an account. ACWA rate increases took effect February 1, 2026, so ask for the current rate sheet when you open your account. Many rural homes use septic systems, so ask the seller whether the home is on sewer and get the septic inspected if it isn't.
Internet options change from road to road out here. Type any address into the FCC National Broadband Map at broadbandmap.fcc.gov to see which providers report service there and at what speeds. Remote workers should check it before making an offer.
Anderson County handles household trash through county convenience centers. The closest one for most Andersonville homes is Glen Alpine, at 3065 Norris Freeway. County centers are open 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, per Anderson County Government. Glen Alpine takes single-stream recycling: plastics #1 through #7, paper, cardboard, and cans, with no plastic bags, film, or foam. Glass is no longer accepted at any county center, and staff may ask for a driver license or utility bill to show you live in the county. Electronics, tires, paint, and appliances go to the Blockhouse Valley Recycling Center at 1480 Blockhouse Valley Road in Clinton. Want curbside pickup instead? Ask neighbors which private haulers serve your road.
New residents have 30 days to get a Tennessee driver license, per the Tennessee Department of Safety. A first Tennessee license has to come from a full-service Driver Services Center. The closest ones are in Oak Ridge at 475 Oak Ridge Turnpike and in Knoxville at 7320 Region Lane. Bring the documents on the department's new-resident checklist, and plan to surrender your old license. Movers from California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Nevada, Oklahoma, Vermont, or West Virginia also need a driving record issued within 30 days.
Tags and titles go through the Anderson County Clerk. Offices are in the courthouse at 100 N. Main St., Room 111, in Clinton, and at 728 C Emory Valley Road in Oak Ridge, both open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. The Clerk also lists a card-only self-serve kiosk at the North Anderson County Clerk's Office, 3310 Andersonville Highway. Bring your title or lienholder details, current registration, and proof of residency. Regular plates cost $29 a year, per the Clerk. Anderson County doesn't require a vehicle emissions test.
