Your water bill in Brentwood could come from the city or from one of three utility districts, depending on which side of town you buy on. That small surprise sums up moving here: Brentwood is polished and well run, and the setup still takes some homework. This guide covers the practical side of the move, from utilities and trash to your license, car tags, schools, library card, and taxes, with every number checked on October 30, 2026.

Here's what we'll cover:
The City of Brentwood buys its drinking water from Harpeth Valley Utility District and Metro Water Services and serves most homes in the central part of the city. Homes in the eastern and western parts of town may be served by another utility. The city's website has an interactive map: type in your address and it shows your provider. The other districts that serve the area include Mallory Valley Utility District (615-628-0237), Harpeth Valley Utility District (615-352-7076), and Nolensville/College Grove Utility District (615-776-2511). For city water and sewer, sign up through the city's online form or call water billing at 615-661-7061. Many Brentwood homes use a low-pressure sewer with a grinder pump, per the city's Water Services page, so ask the seller about the pump's age.

Two electric utilities split Brentwood. Nashville Electric Service covers much of the north side and Middle Tennessee Electric much of the south, with Concord Road as a rough dividing line, per the Brentwood Journal's guide for new residents. The line isn't perfect, so the seller's last electric bill is the quickest way to know.
Piedmont Natural Gas serves Brentwood; call 800-752-7504 to start service. Internet choices vary by street, so check providers for your exact address before closing if you work from home.

The City of Brentwood doesn't run curbside garbage pickup. Residents contract with a private company such as Republic Services, Waste Management, GoRecycles, or Brentwood Disposal, and the city suggests asking your HOA or a neighbor who they use. The city does run free monthly brush pickup. For drop-off, Williamson County's Nolensville Convenience Center is at 1525 Owen Road in Brentwood. Since July 6, 2026, county centers are open 9 to 5 on weekdays and 7 to 3 on weekends. You'll need a Tennessee driver license showing your Williamson County address, and each household can bring up to 3 cubic yards a day. The county landfill has no free disposal from May 4, 2026, until January 2, 2027.
Tennessee gives new residents 30 days to get a Tennessee driver license, and the switch has to happen at a full-service Driver Services Center. The closest is the Franklin center at 3830 Carothers Parkway, open weekdays from 8:30 to 5 Central. Bring your current license, proof of citizenship or legal presence, your Social Security number, and two proofs of Tennessee residency.
For your car, go to the Williamson County Clerk at 1320 West Main Street, Suite 135, in Franklin, open weekdays 8 to 4:30. New residents bring a photo ID, the out-of-state title (or your lienholder's full name and mailing address), and the most recent out-of-state registration. The fee for a new registration is $68.75, which covers a standard plate, title, and county wheel tax, plus $11 if there's a lien. Every person whose name goes on the registration has to be there in person.
Brentwood students attend Williamson County Schools, and families new to the district register online through Skyward for the 2026 to 2027 school year. Proof of residency can be a signed lease, an executed settlement statement, a warranty deed, a mortgage statement, or a recent utility bill. Have a birth certificate, photo ID, and Tennessee immunization records ready too. High school zones don't follow the city line neatly: one home on our list below, on Forest Trail in Concord Forest, is zoned to Nolensville High, while the Brookfield, Montclair, and Tuscany Hills homes are zoned to Ravenwood High. Check your zoned schools by address before you make an offer.
The John P. Holt Brentwood Library at 8109 Concord Road is funded by city property taxes, so cards are free for city residents age 5 and up. Bring an ID with your current address, or another accepted proof such as a utility bill or closing documents. Households outside city limits, including some with Brentwood addresses, pay $75 a year if they live in Williamson County and $130 if they live outside it.
For 2026, Williamson County's rate is $1.30 per $100 of assessed value, and the City of Brentwood adds $0.19, for a combined $1.49, per the Williamson County 2026 property tax rate page. The 37027 ZIP code crosses into Davidson County. When we screened active Brentwood-address listings on October 30, 2026, five of them were in Davidson County, where taxes, schools, and services are Nashville's. Some Williamson County addresses also sit outside city limits, which affects your tax rate and library card. Check the county and city on the tax record, and compare with our Davidson County homes page if you're open to both.
With no city garbage service, trash pickup is a separate monthly bill from a private hauler. Budget for it along with your HOA dues.
