Moving to Spring Hill, TN: Relocation Guide (2026)
Chapters

Which county you land in shapes your whole Spring Hill move. The Williamson and Maury County line runs through town, and it decides your school district, your county clerk, and your county tax bill. This guide walks through the practical side of moving here: utilities, school enrollment, your license and plates, tax bills, and the drives you'll make every week.

Still weighing the move? Our pros and cons of living in Spring Hill covers prices, jobs, and growing pains. Ready to look? Browse Spring Hill homes for sale today.

Here's what we'll cover:

Your Spring Hill Move at a Glance

  • Counties: Williamson County on the north side and Maury County on the south side. Your address decides which county handles your car, your schools, and your county tax bill.
  • City Hall: 199 Town Center Parkway, 931-486-2252.
  • Water, sewer, trash, and recycling: City of Spring Hill, billed together each month.
  • Electric: one of three providers, depending on your address.
  • Natural gas: Atmos Energy.
  • Schools: Williamson County Schools or Maury County Public Schools, by address.

Your First 30 Days: A Spring Hill Checklist

  1. Confirm which county your new address sits in. Almost every step below depends on it.
  2. Apply for city water at least 24 hours before move-in.
  3. Find out which electric company serves the address and start service.
  4. Set up gas with Atmos Energy if the home has it.
  5. Look up your zoned school and start online enrollment.
  6. Get your Tennessee driver license within 30 days.
  7. Title and register your car with the right county clerk.
  8. Watch for city and county property tax bills if you bought.

Setting Up Utilities in Spring Hill

Water, Sewer, Trash, and Recycling

The City of Spring Hill runs its own water treatment plant, which the city says serves about 60,000 customers and earned a 99% "Approved" rating in a TDEC sanitary survey in March 2025. To start service, complete the city's residential water application and email it to [email protected] or bring it to City Hall, along with a color copy of a government photo ID. New customers pay a $50 non-refundable connection fee.

Waste Management handles trash and recycling under a city contract. Your WM account is set up with your water account, and one trash can and one recycling bin come free. Trash goes out weekly and recycling every other week, at the curb by 6 a.m. Bills go out by the 1st and are due by the 15th, and unpaid accounts can be disconnected after the 25th with a $25 reconnection fee.

Electric

Spring Hill has three electric providers inside city limits: Middle Tennessee Electric, Columbia Power and Water Systems, and Duck River Electric. The city's advice is simple: check the electric bill, or ask the seller or landlord which company serves the address. MTE takes new service online or at 877-777-9020 and lists a $40 connection fee and a $5 membership fee.

Gas and Internet

Atmos Energy holds the city's natural gas franchise (888-286-6700). Internet options change street by street, so check providers by address before you close, especially if you work from home.

Enrolling in School

Spring Hill is split between two school districts, and the line follows your address.

  • Williamson County Schools serves the Williamson County side. New families request a Skyward account, then enroll online. Online registration for 2026 to 2027 opened March 16. Bring a certified birth certificate, school records, and a Tennessee School Immunization Certificate. The district's checklist asks for a lease, settlement statement, deed, or mortgage statement, plus a utility bill. High schoolers also need an appointment with the counseling office to set classes.
  • Maury County Public Schools serves the Maury County side. New families create an account and register online. The district asks for three proofs of residency, a birth certificate, Tennessee immunization records, a Social Security card, and any guardianship papers. If you don't have all three residency proofs yet, MCPS gives you 30 days. Registration isn't complete until the documents reach the school.

Confirm zoning with the district before you write an offer. We never promise a school assignment, so verify zoning by address with the district.

Driver License, Title, and Registration

Tennessee requires new residents to get a Tennessee driver license within 30 days of moving. The full-service Franklin Driver Services Center at 3830 Carothers Parkway, open weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., is about 19 miles from City Hall, roughly 25 to 35 minutes.

Your car goes through the county clerk for your side of town:

  • Williamson County Clerk: 1320 West Main Street, Suite 135, Franklin, open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (615-790-5712). The clerk registers vehicles for new residents. Renewal kiosks, including one at the Longview Recreation Center in Spring Hill, handle renewals only.
  • Maury County Clerk: 10 Public Square, Columbia, open weekdays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (931-381-3690). New residents need a photo ID and two proofs of Maury County residency. The clerk lists $73 to transfer an out-of-state title and get a standard plate. A renewal kiosk sits in the Spring Hill Library at 144 Kedron Parkway.

What's My Home Worth?

Property Taxes: Three Bills, Not Two

The City of Spring Hill collects its own property tax, separate from Williamson and Maury counties. That means homeowners get a city bill plus a county bill. The city rate for fiscal 2026 to 2027 is $0.739 per $100 of assessed value, and Tennessee assesses homes at 25% of appraised value. The city code makes city taxes payable in October and delinquent on March 1. If you bought this year and no city bill shows up, the city says to call, since unpaid parcels are still your responsibility. The city's tax clerk also meets by appointment about tax relief and tax freeze programs.

Moving Pains to Plan For

  • Two counties, two sets of offices. A friend across town may use a different clerk, school district, and county tax office than you.
  • Three electric companies. Neighbors a mile apart can have different providers and rates.
  • The recycling fee is mandatory. The city bills it whether you recycle or not.
  • Irrigation adds up. A separate irrigation meter from the city costs $3,001.65, so ask whether a home already has one.
  • Sewer capacity. A state sewer connection moratorium has slowed some new projects since August 2025. Ask your builder how it affects your lot before you sign. Our new construction buyer guide covers what to ask.
  • Daily errands mean driving. Most trips take a car, so test your commute at rush hour before you buy.
